Subtle Lovers is a genre-fluid music collective.
A musician’s band made up of passionate artists dedicated to writing and performing great music. The music evolves - it twists, winds, and never follows a specific or conventional path. And yes, it’s always better live. Started in 2019 by lead vocalist Peter Barnato and bassist Adam Carpenter, it was supposed to be an intimate acoustic project with just the two songwriters. Our first gig was booked before we even had a band. But then one song needed a trumpet and another needed backup vocals. And then keys and guitars and occasional tambourines. Then we had a band.
Our sound is rooted in human experience and emotion, powered by the rollercoaster of life and love. With every instrument fitting into the overall composition and less focused on individual achievements, each song bursts with orchestral arrangements and provides the listener moments of breath and clarity, which can quickly devolve into chaos and paranoia. When you see us play, you may see a 13-piece group on a giant stage or you may see a small acoustic set with vocals, guitar and keys in a small bar. That’s the beauty of the collective. We just love to play and create music–and we’re so lucky the audience has come along with us on this journey.
